A hard man to pin down and literally never one to stand still, Jamie Burnard of Kingsbridge’s Twenty-seven restaurant, has taken over the Bolberry Down restaurant previously known as Oceans (and before that, The Port Light).
Renamed Thirty-three by the sea, this follows his M.O. that began with his first restaurant. He got the keys for that when he turned 27, and he picked up the keys for Thirty-three when he was – you guessed it – 33.
Sitting proudly on the headland and complemented by the wonderful light reflecting off the surface of the English Channel, the venue is light and airy. With 42 covers inside and 28 covers outside, there are ample opportunities for indoor as well as al fresco dining.
You can expect a casual vibe in the restaurant throughout the day and evening. All diners can come in fresh from a trip to the beach or a walk and relax knowing the ‘dressed down’ look is welcome here. With an ambience (and appropriate drink) soothing your soul, you will have all your senses heightened when the food arrives. In fact, be prepared to have your mind blown by the quality of every dish.
Jamie ensures he uses exceptional ingredients from the best whitebait on offer to lobster arancini, fruits de mer à la Jamie to fish and chips served with all the traditional accompaniments, even just a simple and delightful crab sandwich (or a steak if you prefer). Jamie and his team at Thirty-three by the sea will provide for you in the most memorable way.
Thirty-three by the sea philosophy
At Thirty-three our ethos is the same one expected in most restaurants of high repute these days. Fresh, locally sourced, sustainable, and with detailed knowledge of the provenance of as much of our produce as possible. Served to you in relaxed yet vibrant surroundings.
Our kitchen crew are young and enthusiastic and keen to try their skills in creating tasty and good-looking food. Under the zealous watch of chef and owner, Jamie, the team thrive and grow.
Quality is crucial. Jamie sources and cooks the best produce from a superb team of local food suppliers. All the fresh produce is raised, caught, or grown within the South Hams.
Owned by Jamie, and operated by Jamie and partner, Claire, they have retained the excellent services of Front of House manager, Alex, who is well-known and much loved by clientele, having worked at the site for many years.
